India's DD to digitise 39 TV studios

Digital upgrades have been proposed for 39 of India's public broadcaster's television studios, while five digital satellite news-gathering systems are now serving the north east states from Guwahati, Parliament has heard.

Doordarshan (DD) plans to install state-of-the-art digital equipment in five studios in Uttar Pradesh, three studios in Assam, two in each of Meghalaya, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal, and one in the following: Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh and Puducherry.

Four more digital satellite newsgathering units are also planned to help support DD's broadcast services in the north east states of India.
