LG eyes rise in 3D TV in India

Korean consumer electronics giant LG is expanding its range of 3D connected TVs in India in a bid to acquire a 30% share of the market ahead of the London Olympics.

"With the 2012 Olympics to be broadcast in 3D and more than 30 English and Hindi 3D movies to hit Indian cinema halls, 3D entertainment is set to explode in India at a steady growth of 500%," said Soon Kwon, managing director, LG India.

The company is targeting an ambitious INR 1000 crore of the market, and investing INR 100 crore in marketing its latest product range in India, the LG 3D Cinema Smart TVs.

In total, 3D televisions accounted for just a 3% share of the 4 million unit flat panel TV market in 2011, reports the Times of India.
