SAB TV goes free to air in New York, Dallas

SAB TV, a South Asian comedy channel from Sony Entertainment Networks, is now available free to air in the New York metro area and in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas – together comprising a reach of over 10 million households.

In so doing, SAB TV has become the first South Asian channel to broadcast 24 hours a day free to air (FTA) in the United States, according to the broadcaster. A UHF antenna and digital television are all that is required to view the channel's general entertainment content.

"At Sony Entertainment Television, we continue to lead in ways to make our programming available to the widest audience possible," said Jaideep Janakiram, SVP international business, head, North America, SET.

"This free-to-air SAB TV initiative is part of that goal. It's also a unique opportunity for local advertisers to efficiently reach the South Asian target audience in these markets."

The channel includes popular shows such as Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah, Ammaji Ki Gali, and Gili Gili Gappa.

Edison Broadcasting, operators of channel 23 WDVB LD (NYC) and channel 44 KLEG LS (Dallas) are the distribution partners of Sony Entertainment Network for the FTA distribution of SAB TV.

Sony Entertainment TV Asia is now broadcast in 150 countries worldwide.
