UTV closes deal on Warner Bros content

More Hollywood movies, dubbed into Hindi and Telugu, will be available to viewers of UTV after the Indian broadcaster signed a deal with the television distribution arm of Warner Brothers International.

The exclusive long term rights deal sees 60 titles available a year to UTV Action, while UTV Action Telugu will be bolstered with an additional 50 Warner Bros films, reports the Press Trust of India.

The blockbusters included in the deal comprise among others, The Lord of the Rings, The Dark Knight, Shoot Them Up, Cradle to the Grave, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Blue Sea, Golden Compass, Get Smart, Jason X.

Last month UTV inked a deal with Sony Pictures, which will see UTV Action premiere the studio's televisual movie releases in India.

Since its launch in January 2010, UTV Action has established itself as India's premiere Hollywood action destination and biggest male destination on TV, Sameer Ganapathy, Business Head, UTV Action and UTV Action Telugu told PTI.

"Consumers love the brand and the content offering and our trade has seen a tremendous value in the channel especially when targeting the 15+ male audience," said Ganapathy.

"Competitors are already realising the value of action content and have started showcasing more action movies. Our clear positioning meanwhile makes it easy for us to attract the right audience," he added.
