HD business news channel for India

Business news channel CNBC-TV18 is launching in high definition (HD) via India's direct to home (DTH) satellite platforms ready for Mahurat trading on Diwali, 26 October.

The move marks the first time a business news channel has adopted HD transmission in India, according to the Mumbai-based broadcaster.

"CNBC-TV18 Prime HD is a product of key fundamental trends already evident in India. A rapid evolution of financial services, a rise in globalised mind sets and a growing investing culture coupled with the imminent growth in broadcast digitisation and demand for premium content," said Anil Uniyal, CEO – CNBC-TV18 & CNBC Awaaz.

"This has allowed us to deliver a targeted service for the discerning business viewers, giving them the best in the markets with state of the art production values. With this new service in our portfolio, we hope to offer viewers almost a financial terminal like access on TV and a much wider bouquet of global programming, never accessed by Indian investors before," he added.

The channel's video content will have an expanded focus on global markets – looking at Asia in the morning, Europe in the afternoon, and the US in the evening. Financial data and news alerts will accompany the video by way of rich graphics, covering equities, futures, commodities, currencies and bonds.

At launch, the channel will be available on Dish TV (Channel Number 76) and Airtel Digital TV (Channel Number 320) and will initially be free of advertising. In the coming weeks, 'CNBC-TV18 Prime HD' is expected to become available on other DTH platforms.
