TV Today confirms Joy Chakraborthy as CEO

Joy Chakraborthy, the erstwhile executive director of revenue at Zee TV, is to become chief executive officer at TV Today from 1 December, according to local reports.

He fills the vacancy left after G Krishnan's departure at the beginning of September.

Punit Goenka, managing director and chief executive, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, said of Chakraborthy's departure: "I have accepted his resignation with a heavy heart. He led a strong team at Zee that will continue to be part of our family."

As well as his responsibility for media sales, Chakraborthy was also the business unit head of niche channels including Zee Khana Khazana, Zee Café, Zee Studio, Zee Trendz, ETC and Zing.

My journey at Zee for the last six and a half years has been extremely rewarding and fruitful. I am thankful to Zee for giving me the opportunity to explore and broaden my experience in diversified functions," he said.

The move to TV Today in New Delhi will see Chakraborthy enter India's highly competitive and revenue-strapped news arena, looking after channels such as Aaj Tak, Headlines Today, Delhi Aaj Tak and Tej.

"I have learnt a lot during my stint at Zee. We have operated in a cost-tight environment and focused on being profitable," an undaunted Chakraborthy is quoted as saying in Indiantelevision.com.

"I have been given the opportunity to explore and broaden my experience in diversified functions including distribution. And news is not new to me as I have handled sales for Star News during my earlier stint in Star India," he added.
