India's Airtel Digital TV has added 15 more channels to its direct to home (DTH) satellite TV bouquet, including four new high definition (HD) offerings.
UTV Stars HD, The History Channel HD, Colors HD and CNBC-TV18 Prime HD have been added to the platform's selection of true HD channels, which now number 11. Meanwhile, Sahara Samay, Sahara Samay UP, Sahara Samay Bihar, UTV Telugu Action, Sony Mix, and music channels 9xTashan and Sada are among the new standard definition (SD) additions.
"The growth of the HD category over the past year together with rising sales of flat panel TVs has added a new dimension to viewing experience," said Shashi Arora, CEO, DTH and Media, Bharti Airtel.
"The recent initiatives of broadcasters over the past few months to look at different genres for True HD, has lent a welcome impetus to the process of the entire production, storage and distribution chain moving to HD. We will continue to strengthen our true HD content mix while continuing to bring in more content that suits regional preferences," he added.
The company is offering subscribers the HD pack at INR 89 per month (inclusive of taxes), while the four channel Hindi HD pack (with Star Plus HD, Star Gold HD, Colors HD and UTV Stars HD) costs INR 35 a month (including tax).
Altogether, Airtel Digital TV now provides 262 channels to its subscribers across India. One of the country's six private DTH operators, it has been broadcasting since October 2008.
