Colors acquires TV rights to India’s Screen Awards

Indian cinema's annual Screen Awards ceremony is to be televised by Viacom 18's channel Colors, beginning with the 18th edition in January 2012.

The awards gala, which has been broadcast by Star Plus for the past 11 years, celebrates the finest moments on the Indian silver screen, attracting Bollywood stars and boasting impressive performances.

"The Screen Awards is one of the most popular and recognised award functions in the Indian film industry's calendar and we are extremely proud to be associated with it. It has been our constant endeavor to make Colors the one-stop entertainment hub for our audiences by bringing excellence in terms of shows, events and movies, and through the acquisition of this property we hope to achieve just that," said Raj Nayak, chief executive officer, Colors.

Speaking on behalf of the ceremony's promoter, Shekhar Gupta, editor in chief, The Express Group added: "The Screen Awards set the bar for excellence in Indian cinema because it embodies the fundamental principles of the Express Group: credibility and independence. Cinema is bristling with talent, these awards applaud and celebrate this creative upsurge."

Previous Screen Selection Academy jury members include Ramesh Sippy, Amol Palekar, Jeetendra, Asha Parekh, Shatrughan Sinha, and Waheeda Rehman.
