Media speculation links India’s Network 18 and Eenadu TV

Indian regional broadcaster Eanadu TV (ETV) is rumoured to be considering a deal with the Network 18 Group, after its talks stalled with Sony's operator in India Multi Screen Media (MSM) earlier this year.

If the deal emerges, Network 18 would merge ETV's bouquet of 11 regional channels and one Telugu news channel with its own broadcasting assets through a share swap, according to Business Standard.

Both entities have declined to comment on the anonymous sources for the story cited by Business Standard.

ETV's channels, which air in many regional languages, are available in states across India, as well as the Indian diaspora in the US, through ETV Telugu, ETV Bangla and ETV Gujarati.

The Network 18 Group, which holds the broadcast-business based TV18 Broadcast Ltd, counts four national news channels among its assets. CNBC-TV18, CNBC Awaaz, IBN7 and CNN-IBN are wholly owned, while the company also has a 50% stake in Marathi news channel IBN Lokmat, and 50% of Viacom 18, which operates Colors, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Nickelodeon, MTV, and VH1 in India.
