India's Mahuaa Media, part of Century Communication Ltd, has unveiled a new Hindi television news channel for Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Uttarakhand ahead of the states' forthcoming Assembly elections.
The new channel, Mahuaa Newsline, which went on air on 14 January, will have strong journalistic principles and focus on local issues but with a wide perspective, according to a report in Exchange4Media.
"The idea to come up with a new news channel is to fulfil our mission to fight for the public and highlight the unfulfilled promises made to the people of Uttar Pradesh," Rana Yashwant, group editor, Mahuaa News, is quoted as saying by the online publication.
"Mahuaa Newsline UP-Uttarakhand will bring to the fore all those issues that have been swept under the carpet for political, financial and individual interests. In addition to this, the channel will acquaint the people of UP and Uttarakhand with the historical, cultural, religious and folk significance of the two states," he reportedly added.
Mahuaa Media already operates the Hindi wellness channel Pragya TV; general entertainment channels Mahuaa Bangla and Mahuaa Bhojpuri; and news channels Mahuaa News Hindi and Mahuaa News Bangla.
