A 24-hour Tamil music channel from Chennai-based Kalaignar TV is to be launched on 26 January, aimed to appeal to the state's music lovers aged 6-60.
The channel, called Murasu TV, will join the existing five genre-based channels from the broadcasting group owned by former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.
RMS Rajesh Kumar, vice president of children's channel Chithiram TV, will manage the new channel's content.
Murasu TV will play music pre-dating the year 2000, distinguishing it from Kalaignar's existing youth-targeted music channel Isai Aruvi.
"The USP of the channel is its thematic approach, presenting its viewers a new entertainment platform. The channel, with its customised content offering, will definitely be different from what Tamil audiences are used to and is sure to strike a chord with them. Our creative team has created a music mix strategically planned to uplift the mood of listeners," a Kalaignar TV spokesperson told Exchange 4 Media.
The Tamil broadcaster which launched in 2007, currently has a general entertainment channel Kalaignar TV; the music channel Isai Aruvi; a news channel Seythigal; comedy channel Sirippoli; and children's channel Chithiram TV.
