Neo Sports agrees terms with MSM Discovery for new distribution deal

The rift between India's Neo Sports Broadcast and channel distributor MSM Discovery has been healed with the signing of a new carriage agreement via the latter's TheOneAlliance branded bouquet.

Although Neo Sports no longer carries India's national cricket fixtures after its TV rights deal was terminated by the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) late in 2011, it will broadcast key global sporting properties this year. These include the Asia Cup cricket tournament (1-12 March), UEFA Euro 2102 football championships (8 June – 1 July), the French Open tennis competition (27 May – 10 June), and World Series Hockey tournament (29 February – 2 April).

TheOneAlliance already carries Sony Max, the exclusive national broadcaster for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"The philosophy of TheOneAlliance is to create a strong product offering of diverse and strong television content. The sports genre has always been a strong growth driver. We are happy to welcome back Neo to TheOneAlliance bouquet," said Rajesh Kaul, president, MSM Discovery.

Prasana Krishnan, chief operating officer, Neo Sports Broadcast, added: "We are happy to rejoin TheOneAlliance bouquet and aspire to take it to greater heights. The combined offering of the bouquet will ensure viewers get to witness the biggest blockbusters in cricket and major sporting events in 2012."

Although signed only last week, the new commercial deal dates back to 4 January, shortly after the previous agreement between the two parties went by the wayside. Media speculation suggests the contract is for one year, with a renewal option.
