The Viacom 18 channel Colors has acquired the Indian rights to the popular BBC Worldwide-produced TV dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, or Dancing with the Stars, which was previously shown on Sony Entertainment Television.
The programme's fifth season, now to be shown on Colors, will once again bring together budding choreographers with a range of celebrities.
"Jhalak Dikhla Jaa – Dancing with the Stars is one of the most successful entertainment formats on Indian television and we are happy to collaborate with BBC Worldwide Productions. We have always wanted to showcase a dance show and what better than to acquire the biggest dance format show in the world," said Raj Nayak, chief executive, Colors.
The Hindi TV network is already home to a range of localized versions of international reality formats, including Bigg Boss (internationally known as Big Brother), India's Got Talent, Ring Ka King (wrestling show King of the Ring), and Khatron Ke Khiladi (Fear Factor, a stunt-based reality TV show).
Colors also recently acquired the rights for the Screen Awards, previously shown by rival Hindi general entertainment channel Star Plus.
