Zee New Media, the digital division of Indian media group Zee TV, has today launched the country's first over the top television (OTT) distribution platform, providing live and catch-up TV across a range of devices.
Originally trailed in October, Ditto TV will now provide Indian consumers with a mixture of on-demand video content and live viewing of TV channels via their PC, laptop, tablet, connected TV, set top box or mobile phone.
Already hosting 21 TV channels in India, the Siemens-built OTT platform will also become available to audiences in the UK, UAE, New Zealand and Australia at the end of the current financial quarter.
Ditto TV has so far partnered with content providers Multi Screen Media (MSM), which runs Sony Entertainment Television in India; TV Today; BBC; and Zee TV. With other negotiations underway, it hopes to offer 50 channels soon.
"The OTT category presents a huge potential and adds an exciting new dimension to Zee's business model. Ditto TV was created to bring wireless broadband digital services to customers across the world. I believe that Ditto TV will transform the way content is consumed, and monetised and we are thrilled to be at the helm of this revolution," said Punit Goenka, managing director and chief executive, Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
Running on a Siemens Communication and Media Technology (CMT)-designed adaptive streaming platform, the service provides users with customised channels, so viewers can select only what content appeals to them and their wallets.
The Ditto TV application is available at the Apple App Store, Android Market, and BlackBerry Application World, as well as online for Windows and Mac PCs from www.dittotv.com. Prepaid cards for the service will also retail in India at stores such as Croma and Vijay Sales.
