India's NDTV bounces back in Q4

Indian news broadcaster New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV) has registered a 43% increase in revenues for the fourth quarter of the year ending 31 March 2013.

Consolidated revenues of INR 1.8656 billion were reported, up from INR 1.3796 billion in the fourth quarter in 2012. Operating profit increased to INR 420 million for the quarter ending 31 March compared to INR 83.5 million in the same quarter of the previous year. Net profit was INR 278.1 million compared to a loss of INR 413.3 million in the corresponding quarter of 2012.

Production and marketing costs were both up in the fourth quarter, resulting in a rise of 13.16% in consolidated expenses from 1.3796 billion in the fourth quarter 2012 to INR 1.8656 billion in the quarter ending 31 March 2013.

"The main reason for the increase in production costs and marketing costs is that we held some really big events like Support your School and Toyota University Cricket Championship. Correspondingly ... our revenues for the last quarter have also shot up and the events are one of the main reasons," said Vikram Chandra, CEO & executive director, NDTV Group.
