India TV appoints QW Naqvi as editorial director

QW Naqvi has joined India TV as editorial director, following his departure last year from rival Hindi news channel Aaj Tak.

Naqvi, said India TV in its announcement, "is known to be a tenacious mentor who has spawned a generation of well known journalists".

His new remit is to take India TV to the next level, while reporting directly to the news channel's chairman and editor-in-chief, Rajat Sharma.

"Naqvi Ji is a hugely respected professional, with his experience, knowledge and enigma we definitely see India TV growing faster than ever in its quest to reign supreme in the Hindi news genre and beyond," said Sharma.

"With elections round the corner, I think we are on our way to create the right mix for our viewers and advertisers alike," he added.

Commenting on his appointment, Naqvi said: "This opportunity comes as a huge prospect for me to contribute towards furthering India TV's charge for cementing its leadership position in the news genre."

Naqvi started his career in 1980 as trainee journalist with The Times of India Group, working at Navbharat Times, and later at Ravivar, where he served as chief reporter.
