Satellite capacity for direct-to-home (DTH) TV now represents 32% of India's total commercial satellite capacity usage, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7% between 2008 and 2013.
A new report from Euroconsult also found TV distribution services to cable operators and VSAT enterprise networks have also recorded growing demand, with an increased number of operators now populating India's teleport and VSAT service market.
Half of India's spend on satellite manufacturing is now dedicated to developing communications satellites, according to the Paris-based consultancy's new report. While the Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) dominates the sector, there are outsourcing opportunities for foreign and national companies, Euroconsult believes.
"Changes in the country's satcom policy, which is expected to be released in 2014, should bring positive changes and contribute to additional growth in satcom markets over the coming years, in particular for services using Ku-band capacity from foreign operators," said Deepu Krishnan, senior consultant at Euroconsult.
In total, India's demand for regular C- and Ku-band satellite capacity is expected to grow at 6% per annum between 2013 and 2023, according to the report, which adds that new demand for services using HTS systems will be an added factor by the end of the decade.
