China's Shenzen Coship Electronics is to establish a set-top box (STB) manufacturing facility in India, according to local reports.
The factory would initially manufacture 250,000 units a month and be capable of increasing productivity as demand requires, Vipan Kumar Sharma, Coship's country manager for India told Indiantelevision.com.
The Chinese company already has a technical office in Chennai and commercial base in Delhi. It is reportedly looking at a site near Delhi, Chennai or Pune, to employ around 1,000 workers.
Shenzhen Coship, which has already exported ten million STBs to India from China since 2007, is planning to provide another five million STBs to the South Asian nation by the end of 2014. It currently supplies STBs to cable operators Siticable and Kerala Communicators Cable Limited (KCCL) plus direct-to-home (DTH) platform Sun Direct. It is also reportedly in talks with Videocon d2h.
