X Factor US airs across India on AXN

The inaugural season of X Factor US will be aired for the first time in India on the English language entertainment channel AXN, following its premiere on Fox in America a day earlier.

Acerbic tongued pop Svengali Simon Cowell - creator of the original hit show in the UK – both produces and sits on its judging panel of the new US talent show. He is jointed by singer Paula Abdul, former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherinzger (who replaced British singer Cheryl Cole), and record producer Antonio ‘LA’ Reid.

An unprecedented prize of a US$5 million recording contract with Cowell’s company Syco and Sony Music is on the table for the best singer, band or troupe.

Cowell walked away from his judging position on the massively successful American Idol to produce this latest version of the TV talent show, which had a movie-style premiere for 2,000 people in Los Angeles.

X Factor US will be broadcast at 7pm each night from Monday to Thursday on AXN in India.

“The aim is to broaden the appeal of the channel and attract an older audience as well,” said Rohit Bhandari, senior vice president, AXN India.

The US lags behind India in terms of producing its own version of X Factor. The first season of X Factor India concluded earlier this month on Sony Entertainment Television.

AXN Asia is wholly owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, and managed by SPE Networks.
