A film city comprising some 20 studios and inspired by Hollywood is to be built in Bangalore.
Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi television production companies and film makers will reportedly be approached to move to the INR 1,000 crore complex which, according to the Economic Times, also hopes to attract international production houses looking to cut overheads and ‘make their presence felt in India’.
Construction on a 300 acre site outside Bangalore will reportedly be overseen by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) - which is also building a motorway between Mysore and Bangalore.
“The film studio will have a capacity to shoot 20 movies at a time,” Ashok Kheny, managing director of NICE is reported as saying in Financial Express.
The facility hopes to set up permanent sets in conjunction with leading Bollywood studios, which in the future could become a tourist attraction akin to Universal Studios in the US.
