Star India’s Just Dance finale attracts 97mn viewers

The star studded final episode of Just Dance pulled in 97 million viewers to India's Star Plus and Star One, which simultaneously broadcast the grand finale of the TV talent show last weekend.

The culmination of the reality dance competition, which aired on 1 October, received 3.3 television ratings (TVR) points, according to new data from audience monitoring company TAM.

"Just Dance was the most exciting and loved show this year and we are extremely happy with viewers' overwhelming response," Nitin Vaidya, business head, Hindi channels, Star India is quoted as saying by Best Media Info.

"Given the intense competition in the GEC (general entertainment channel) genre, Just Dance has demonstrated an outstanding performance thereby setting a higher benchmark for reality shows on television," he added.

The popular prime time weekend talent show opened to 4.7 TVR in June, reaching 25.9 million viewers in India across the Star India network. About 30,000 contestants auditioned for the global event, with just 52 selected to dance on the Mumbai stage in front of the TV cameras.

Star Plus's debut TV vehicle for star dancer Hrithik Roshan, saw him judging the televised competition along with Bollywood choreographers Farah Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant.

They were joined in the finale by some of Bollywood's biggest names, including Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha and Deepika Padukone.
