Sun TV launches Malayalam children’s channel

The first channel dedicated to children in the Malayalam language, Kochu TV, has been launched by the Kalanidhi Maran-owned Sun TV Network.

The 24 hour channel, aimed at kids from Kerala aged 4-14, follows three other regional language children's channels on Sun TV. Tamil channel Chutti TV launched in 2007, while 2009 saw the launch of the Kannada channel Chintu TV and Telugu channel Kushi TV.

Kochu TV joins Surya TV and Kiran TV as the three Malayalam offerings on Sun TV, which now broadcasts 21 channels in total, predominantly aimed at the South Indian market.

A variety of content for Kochu TV, including Jackie Chan, He Man, Spiderman, game shows, Hollywood movies, children's news and educational programmes, has been adapted into Malayalam rather than dubbed.

In India, the channel will be broadcast across cable TV networks and on the Sun Direct direct to home (DTH) satellite platform. It will also reportedly be available in Asia, Europe, the Gulf and the US.

As well as on air and print advertising, the channel's mascot, a lion cub called Singhu, will reportedly be promoting the channel across Kerala.
