Apalya powers mobile TV streaming of IPL 5

Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies is to provide exclusive mobile video streaming for every Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match over the coming eight weeks, for the fourth consecutive year.

Over 150 million minutes of mobile video content is now powered by Apalya for its partnerships with India's mobile telecommunications service providers, with India now recording over 200 million video views a month on mobile devices – according to the company.

"We are happy to announce that we are yet again the official mobile streaming partner for IPL 2012. This year we aim to cross 10 million subscribers with IPL V and expect the viewing minutes to more than double," said Vamshi Krishna Reddy, co-founder and chief executive, Apalya Technologies.

"Thanks to the evolving 3G network, better and stable 2.5G network coupled with advanced smart phone proliferation in the market, mobile TV has been a big success among consumers who are always on the go," he added.

The ICC Cricket World Cup, co-hosted a year ago in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Apalya generated 17TB of streaming, with almost 50 minutes viewed per user for the six matches in which India played.

In addition to powering the mobile TV services of India's telecommunications companies, Apalya has now teamed up with operators in Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
