Indian direct to home (DTH) platform Videocon d2h is now carrying the high definition (HD) feed of Indian Premier League (IPL) season 5, following a deal with distributor MSM Discovery.
MSM Discovery is the sole distribution partner of Sony Entertainment Television (SET) Max; the MSM-run channel which holds the sole TV broadcast rights for the high octane twenty20 cricket tournament in India.
Videocon d2h joins fellow DTH players Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV, along with multi system operator (MSO) Hathway Cable & Datacom in providing live IPL action in HD this season. DTH platforms Tata Sky and Sun Direct continue to provide SET Max HD this year, following the pioneering deal they each reached with MSM Discovery for IPL 4.
"Viewing preferences are very important for us and we ensure every effort to provide more content for customers suiting their needs. We now offer 13 HD channels (including Max HD); we provide the highest number of sports channels too across all DTH platforms. We look forward to consolidate our leadership position in high definition category," said Saurabh Dhoot, director, Videocon d2h.
Max HD will be available free of charge to Videocon d2h's Platinum HD subscribers, while the feed will also be available to customers subscribing to either the Sports HD or HD Globe add on. The standard definition (SD) feed of Max is already available to all Videocon d2h customers, with those based in the south being supplied it for free.
Dish TV India, meanwhile, has also announced Max HD will be available to its existing HD subscribers without further charge.
