Sun Direct cuts the cost of DTH movies and sport

Indian direct-to-home (DTH) TV operator Sun Direct is slashing the prices of its sport and movie channel bundle to coincide with the ICC Champions Trophy series of one day internationals (ODI), hoping to attract cricket fans to its digital offer.

Sun claims its Cinema Plus pack currently has over a million subscribers, but is now transforming it to Cinema+ Sports for existing subscribers, adding Star Cricket, ESPN, Star Sports and Star Sports 2 to the movie mix for a monthly fee of INR185.

Star Sports and Star Sports-2 will be available with all Sun's basic packs, providing ICC Champions Trophy action with both Hindi and English commentary.

New customers opting for a standard definition (SD) DTH connection with Sun's Cinema plus pack will pay INR1,690 (with one month's free subscription) or INR2,090 (with four months' free subscription).

Sun is also making ESPN HD and Star Cricket HD available to its HD subscribers at the new HD pack price of INR150 per month.

"Sun Direct has always strived to deliver the best entertainment value to our customers. Our Cinema Plus pack with its exclusive movie services and channels has been a runaway hit. With the Cinema+ Sports pack, we are sure to make this pack even more attractive," said Mahesh Kumar, managing director, Sun Direct.

Sun also offers customers a hard disk record facility on both its HD and SD set-top boxes, enabling customers to pause, record and rewind live action to watch at their convenience.
