Dish TV India launches OTT streaming app

Indian direct-to-home (DTH) satellite operator Dish TV has unveiled a new over-the-top (OTT) app called DishOnline, to provide video streaming to Android and iOS-based smartphones and tablets.

A Web-based DishOnline interface will follow for live and on-demand streaming to laptops and PCs. However, DishTV subscribers can now find the mobile app on the Google Play and Apple iTunes app stores.

"DishOnline is a unique service for all those valued subscribers who want to keep in touch with their favourite shows and programmes even when on the move. We are delighted to offer them the world of unlimited entertainment on the go," said R C Venkateish, chief executive officer, Dish TV India

"This initiative will translate into huge competitive advantage for Dish TV as it is the only service provider in the cable TV and DTH industry to offer this one-of-a-kind facility," he added.

Developed in conjunction with streaming portal Ditto TV, DishOnline will provide live TV, TV shows and videos. In addition, over 1000 Bollywood and Hollywood movies will be available on demand.

To receive mobile streaming, Dish TV subscribers first need to purchase DishOnline packs. The Jumbo Pack, priced at INR129, includes all live channels, TV shows, films and videos, while the Starter Pack at INR49 includes all movies, TV shows and videos. As an introductory offer, the Jumbo and Starter Packs will be available at INR69 and INR29 respectively.

Live channel feeds from the OTT service include Zee TV, Sony, Sab, Zee Cinema, Zee Studio, Zee Cafe, Ten Action, Ten Cricket, Zee News, Aaj Tak, BBC, Sony Mix, Masti, and the regional channels Zee Marathi, Zee Tamil and Zee Telugu.
