Sony LIV, BIGFlix apps for Sony connected TVs in India

Two new entertainment services have been unveiled in India for viewers of Sony Bravia Internet connected TVs in the shape of video-on-demand (VOD) app Sony LIV and movie-on-demand service BIGFlix.

Multi Screen Media's Sony LIV offers multi-genre on-demand content from Sony Entertainment Television, with multi-bitrate video streaming for improved quality. Connected Bravia users can also now also stream high definition (HD) movies from Reliance ADAG's BIGFlix service, comprising over 1500 films in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali and Punjabi.

"There is an increasing appetite in India for on-demand content. The introduction of these apps will help viewers to easily consume their favourite videos from TV serials and movies whenever they want," said Tadato Kimura, head of marketing, Sony India.

Sony LIV and BIGFlix can both be downloaded from the Opera TV Store, Opera Software's HTML5 application platform for Internet devices.

Aneesh Rajaram, senior vice president for TV and Devices at Opera Software, added: "Opera's Web products for TV are all about bringing the top brands and exciting content closer to viewers, and the Opera TV Store makes it easy to achieve this vision. We are glad to synergise with partners like Sony, Sony LIV and BIGFlix to help users get more out of their TV viewing experience."
