Around half India's DTH subscriptions are inactive, says TRAI

The number of active subscribers to India's six private direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV platforms was just 56%, or 34.26 million, of the 60.71 million registered total at the end of September 2013, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Of the 784 licensed private satellite TV channels, 187 are now pay channels, the regulator also said in its quarterly performance indicators' report.

Fixed Internet connections in India reached 22.19 million at the end of September 2013, up 1.38% from the 21.89 million registered at the end of June 2013. While the country's broadband customers rose to 15.35 million by 30 September 2013, showing a year-on-year growth of 4.52%.
