Bharti Airtel becomes fourth largest mobile operator in the world

New Delhi-based telco Bharti Airtel has moved up one notch in the worldwide ranking to be the fourth largest mobile operator in the world in terms of subscribers.

According to the latest data from the Wireless Intelligence Scoreboard, in terms of subscribers Bharti Airtel is exhibiting robust business growth in the telecoms sector globally.

At the end of the quarter ended June 2012, the multi-national company had over 250 million mobile subscribers across its operations, representing 13% annual growth.

In June 2010 Bharti Airtel had become the fifth largest mobile operator in the world following its acquisition of Zain Group’s mobile operations across 15 African nations.

The company also has dominated cellular phone business operations in the  Indian sub-continent.

In India, the company's product offerings include 2G, 3G and 4G wireless services, mobile commerce, fixed line services, high speed DSL broadband, IPTV, DTH, enterprise services including national and international long distance services to carriers.

In the rest of the regions, it offers 2G, 3G wireless services and mobile commerce.

The top five operators globally, according to Wireless Intelligence, are China Mobile with 683.08 million subscribers, followed by Vodafone Group with 386.88 million, America Movil Group with 251.83 million, Bharti Airtel with 250.04 million and Telefonica Group with 243.51 million subscribers.
